A nice day for a white wedding (part 2)

Nicola Hanney

The church and the bridal flowers.

Traditional bay trees in zinc planters with rope handles were used at the entrance to St. Katherines Church, Blackrod, Bolton. Inside we used tall zinc planters, planted with tall Cyperus papyus grasses, white cyclamen, long varigated ivy and white heather instead of the usual pedestal arrangements. The flower lady at church looked very perplexed when I arrived with them.

Simple jam jars with pretty white flowers were used as pew ends and to adorn the register table. There was no table cloth on the table and when I asked if there was a table cloth, the reply I got was “it’s nothing to do with me”. Luckily the shop is only 5 minutes away, so I dashed back and pick one up.

The maid of honour had a corsage/boutonniere and there were no more bridesmaids. The brides bouquet was a collection of white flowers tied naturally and bound with hessian. I used Hydrangea, Scabious (which was beautiful), Nigella seed heads, dahlias, sweet peas, veronica and a touch of gyp.

She looked beautiful and very happy when she emerged from church.
